Seattle artist Kim Burroughs debuts in the gallery with a new series of encaustic paintings depicting the color and movement of koi fish. Painting with a combination of melted wax and pigment, these pieces have lush color and texture. Meet the artist at the Opening Reception and learn more!
I am a digital and mixed media artist. I do a lot on the computer, such as draw, paint, manipulate images. I also do a lot off the computer--paint, sketch, knit, collage. The computer is a great tool because it allows me to create pieces that scale from big to small. It also allows me to create works on various mediums: canvas, metal, glass, acrylic, paper, fabric, and epoxy.
After envying a friend's digital art work for years, I decide to take a class in Illustrator and Photoshop and became an Illustrator wonk almost overnight - it absolutely captured my imagination. Producing iconic images in modern media is a definite avocation now, and I've expanded into encaustic as well, so I'm using both the newest and the oldest art making techniques. I think my fantasy is to be a Google Doodler for a month!
