Color, structure, and the sensual properties of paint are the key elements of creation to artist Julia Ricketts. Blocks of layered color exist in tension with drips of liquid paint and strokes of thicker impasto, creating a rich surface to explore in each piece. Her recent work includes fragments of animal and plant life, adding narrative complexity to the abstract spaces. Her past series have explored the aerial landscape, the urban environment, and pure geometric abstraction.
Julia Ricketts is an instructor at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, WA. She holds a BFA from Alfred University (Alfred, NY), and has garnered numerous awards including grants and residencies from Artist Trust, Centrum, King County, Pilchuck Glass School, and the Museum of Glass. Her work is in the collections of Microsoft, Edge Assets, and 4Culture, as well as numerous private collections.
